im ngl i don’t think alastair hates at all bc this rivalry is literally just matthew being delusional but even still the fact that alastair doesn’t give a shit about the teasing and antagonizing and insulting he just doesnt want to see someone go down the same path as his father? I LOVE HIM

ive had this headcanon for a while that alastair is the one to help math with the alcoholism, he offers once everything calms down. math is skeptical and hes like “why tf would you help me or why should i trust you” and alastair just says something like “i dont want to see anyone else go through what my father did, you know i have experience dealing with it and i know the nature of it, im not going to judge you for anything or blame you i know the effects an addiction can have on a person. you know our history, you know damn well i wont coddle you or baby you or make excuses for your behaviour, im probably one of the only people who could effectively help you”

and from then on alastair is the one to help distract math or get him out of tempting situations or bring him water or help during relapses (which math is especially grateful for bc he doesnt want anyone else to see him like that but its reassuring to have someone there who wont judge) and their friendship grows from there. they’ve both seen each other at their worst and they’re pretty similar once the emotional floodgates open its hard not to bond

Thomas and Matthew for the así thingie. (We don’t get much content of these two together but they’ve been friends since forever so there’s a lot of potential right)

YES I LITERALLY LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP IF THEY DONT TALK MUCH IN THE NEXT BOOK IMMA CRY

I think Matthew put the peeps in the microwave for fun because he wanted to see how they would react. It was worth it James was laughing Christopher was interested as a science experiment and Thomas just make him clean it up before it got worse than it already was (Thomas helped though because Matthew was begging)

Thomas takes videos of Matthew and James being stupid. (Ya know thag video where the guy is filming behind him and one guy is talking along with the bop it toy thing while the other is doing it and dancing thats the kind of videos he has)

Thomas breaks his phone a lot. Sometimes its knocked out of his hands when Matthew knocks into him and Matthew just apologizes profusely and buys him another one.

When sharing beds typically James and Matthew share and Christopher and Thomas share but a few times Matthew and Thomas share and when that happens Thomas steals the sheets and Matthew just pouts and goes to sleep on the couch with his own blanket and Matthew snores so sometimes Thomas can't sleep with that noise and takes the couch.

Matthew likes to think he can do anything which he most certainly cant. Thomas finds it funny because sometimes (especially Lucie and Cordelia) like to demand to see whatever Matthew has been claiming to have the ability to do. That results in Matthew in a stuttering mess and everyone else laughing hysterically. Matthew then goes bright red 'shut up i hate you lot sometimes' which just gets more laughter

Thomas dies first. I just have a big feeling he won't make it to old age. Imagine if they were together when he died or if he died protecting Matthew and Matthew is sitting there sobbing 'no tom its just a scratch you'll be alright you have to be Alastair is going to kill me' and Thomas just laughing weakly 'i'll make sure he doesn't and math whatever secrets you have do not define you I know you and you are an amazing person' and Matthew just SOBBING because he lost a brother and he would rather lose his actual brother than lose Thomas

Thomas ever the mom of the group fusses more. 'You shouldn't drink so much' 'dont forget your shoes' 'Matthew youre in pajamas' 'IF YOU DONT START PAYING ATTENTION DURING FIGHTS I WILL PERSONALLY KILL YOU BRING YOU BACK AND KILL YOU AGAIN'

Matthew is cuddly but just with James and Thomas. He loves Christopher but Christopher gets awkward if you touch him. While he typically goes to James when he gets cuddly he will also go and hug Thomas as well because 'hugging tall people is the best feeling in the world'

Matthew said I love you first because he is a loving person and Thomas just basked in it because someone loved him and didn't think of him as sickly and weak!

Matthew is more protective. He tried his best to protect Thomas from the rumors even though it effected him just as much as it effected Thomas. He always has his back in fights when he's not with James because Christopher is easily distracted and Thomas doesn't have anyone to cover him and often gets hurt.

Matthew is more likely to cry over a book but only if its Oscar Wilde. He doesn't read unless its Oscar Wilde because 'why should I read a book if I know it won't be good because he didn't write it?' Thomas just sighs and accepts that Matthew is going to hug him and keep him close because he's upset.

Matthew likes to stay up until at LEAST 3 in the morning and sometimes Thomas will stay up with him but most times he crashes at 1 and gets up at 8.
